Fisher Comments on Bailey's Recovery

St. Louis Rams reporter Dani Klupenger revealed Wednesday that Rams head coach Jeff Fisher told her he had seen a video of Bailey walking, which she noted is a "huge development."

On Tuesday, Joe Lyons of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch provided additional comments from Fisher speaking on Bailey's recovery:

He's improving. One thing that was really, really cool [and] really, really emotional was that he obviously had intensive surgery — he was in surgery for over six hours — to remove one bullet. There were two wounds to the head, two shots. He was in a medically induced coma for obvious reason to keep the swelling down in the brain. ... His girlfriend texted a picture to some of his teammates yesterday in the locker room [before the game] of him signing his name on a piece of paper, so [we] got to share that with the team yesterday and it was good news.

Bailey Undergoes Successful Surgery

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Wednesday that Bailey was out of surgery after several hours and he'll remain in the ICU for three to five days. Rapoport noted that "doctors are hopeful."

On Thursday, CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reported Bailey was "very stable" and "is conscious and aware."

Bailey Shot Multiple Times

Rapoport reported Tuesday night that Bailey was shot twice in the head in a car with two young relatives and his cousin. Additionally, he noted the car's driver "was shot many times, shielding the kids from bullets." The driver's wounds are considered life-threatening.

Citing a Rams source, NFL Network's Michael Silver reported Bailey "suffered a head wound" that was "not considered life-threatening." Wilson added the "current outlook is now more optimistic for Stedman Bailey after [the] initial fear of [a] life-threatening gunshot wound to [his] head."

Early Wednesday morning, the Rams released a statement on the incident: "We are aware Stedman Bailey was involved in an incident this evening. We have spoken with Stedman and he is in the hospital in critical, but stable, condition. We are gathering facts about the situation and will provide updates as we learn more."

Garafolo provided an update later Wednesday afternoon, noting that Bailey is still in surgery and the driver is out of surgery and in stable but critical condition.
