Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch first reported word of the new deal Tuesday. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported the deal was worth more than $33 million, with upwards of $16 million in guarantees.

Brockers is in the final season of his rookie contract, which carries a cap hit of just over $6.1 million for the 2016 campaign, according to Spotrac. He could have become an unrestricted free agent next offseason without the extension.

The 25-year-old defensive tackle registered 44 combined tackles and three sacks while playing all 16 games for the Rams last year.

He started the new season with just two tackles in an all-around forgettable performance for L.A. on Monday night in a 28-0 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

He's been seeking a new long-term contract since the 2015 offseason. He told Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com at the time he didn't want to get too involved in the negotiating process, though.

"I'm going to let agents and [general managers] do what they have to do," Brockers said. "I'm going to try to stay back and get my eye on the field and what I have to do to get better."

In all, the LSU product has racked up 155 combined tackles, 14.5 sacks and two forced fumbles as a stalwart member of the Rams defensive line. He's also been durable, appearing in every regular-season game since the start of the 2013 season.

Brockers should remain a key piece of the front four throughout the duration of the deal. Pairing him with the dynamic Aaron Donald gives L.A. one of the league's best tackle duos in between the edge-rushing tandem of Robert Quinn and William Hayes.

The Rams return to action Sunday for their home opener against the Seattle Seahawks.
