David Schwimmer Talked to Kris Jenner About Playing Robert Kardashian

Going straight to the source! In the highly anticipated FX event series American Crime Story: The People V OJ Simpson, Friends star David Schwimmer will be portraying Simpson’s late attorney Robert Kardashian. Kardashian was, of course, the ex-husband of Kris Jenner and the father of now-famed reality stars Kim, Khloe, Kourtney, and Rob Kardashian. 

To prepare for his role, Schwimmer, 48, spoke to the momager, 59, about her late ex. 

“I was lucky enough to speak to [Jenner] for a few hours who was very generous with her time,” he told the Associated Press at the Fox Upfronts in NYC on Monday, May 11. “I thought, `Who better to tell me who Robert was as a husband and a father than her?’ And it’s been a very exciting process so far.”

The news was announced yesterday that actress Selma Blair would be portraying Jenner in the upcoming series. And Cuba Gooding Jr. will be playing retired football star and murder suspect O.J. Simpson. 

“People keep asking me whether I think he did it or not, and I don’t think that’s the goal here, to prove his innocence or his guilt,” Gooding told reporters at the same event. “I think it’s more us putting the judicial system under the spotlight. … We try to find a truth in the moment so that we can find answers. I think this 10 hours of television is gonna be very powerful, and I think a lot of people are going to learn a lot.”

Also in the cast is John Travolta as Simpson’s attorney Robert Shapiro and Sarah Paulson as prosecutor Marcia Clark. 

“I had just gotten back from the Cannes Film Festival where we won the Palme d’Or for Pulp Fiction. I was on this kind of high with a new (revived) career and then this American tragedy was happening,” Travolta recalled of when he first learned of the Simpson case in 1994.

Ryan Murphy will direct the series, which has already begun filming.
