How to Watch My Hero Academia in Order Including Movies

Publish date: 2024-09-06

The My Hero Academia franchise started as a manga series in 2014. Then the animated series began two years later. So far, there have been six seasons of the animated series of MHA, with a seventh season underway. However, the anime also has OVAs released alongside the seasonal episodes.

OVA (Original Video Animation) are filler episodes that are not derived from the manga series that is being animated. They have no bearing on the original manga plot but are great for fleshing out some characters, exploring the back story, etc. So while you might not be missing out on the major plot points of MHA just by watching only the seasonal episodes, you might miss out on what makes our favorite characters tick by skipping the OVAs and movies.

My Hero Academia Watch Order

To watch My Hero Academia in order, you have to access the animated series, the original video animations, and the movies. As mentioned earlier, the anime has six seasons so far.

The OVAs and movies have come in between these seasonal releases, with some years having more than one OVA. There are altogether two OVAs in 2017, a movie in 2018, one OVA and a movie in 2019, a movie in 2021, and three OVAs in 2022. There was also an ONA (Original Net Animation) in 2020 and a special (long-length episode) in 2017.

Here is The Order To Watch My Hero Academia

How Many Seasons of My Hero Academia Are There?

So far, six seasons of My Hero Academia have aired. The animated series started in 2016 and has released one season per year, excluding 2020 (which had a continuation of season four). The seventh season is expected to premiere in April 2024. However, it may also be the final season of the animated series.

Season 1: My Hero Academia

The first season introduces us to the protagonist Izuku Midoriya. He is unfortunately born quirkless (without superpowers), but this never diminished his zeal to be a hero. This season covers his encounter with Japan’s greatest hero, All Might, how he became All Might’s successor, his experience at U.A High, and Class 1-A’s battle with villains led by Tomura.

Season 2: My Hero Academia 2

Season two focused on the Sports Festival, Midoriya’s attempt to master his quirk, his battle with classmate Shoto, his Gran Torino, a previous teacher of All Might, and his battle with Hero Killer: Stain.

Season 3: My Hero Academia 3

In season three, Midoriya and his friends tried to save Bakugo, who had been kidnapped by Tomura’s team or The League of Villains. It is revealed that All For One was behind The League of Villains. The students then took their Provisional Hero Exam, and the Big 3 (Mirio, Hada, and Amajiiki) were introduced.

Season 4: My Hero Academia 4

The season focused on the heroes’ battle with Overhaul, who had one bullet shot that could eliminate quirks. It also touched on Endeavor’s true motives and a school festival.

Season 5: My Hero Academia 5

Season five focuses on the Joint Training Arc, Midoriya’s new quirk, Blackwhip, their Work Studies program, and internship under Endeavour. The highlight of the season was the battle between the Meta Liberation Army and the League of Villains in Deika City and the collaboration between the two to form the Paranormal Liberation Front.

Season 6: My Hero Academia 6

Season six focuses on the battles between the heroes, the students of the U.A. High School, and the Paranormal Liberation Front led by Tomura Shigaraki. It also dealt with the aftermath of the war. Midoriya then leaves the U.A. High School to keep his classmates safe and to help the Pro Heroes in fishing out villains.
