Jennifer Hudson Talks Dreamgirls Costar Beyonce
Consider J-Hud part of the Beyhive! Jennifer Hudson appeared on Watch What Happens Live on Wednesday, Sept. 24, where she discussed her relationship with her former Dreamgirls costar Beyonce.
One caller asked whether Beyonce gave her advice on the set of the 2006 musical drama, which was Hudson's acting debut.
"I just remember her telling me, 'You have such an amazing start. Like, no one gets this opportunity,'" the American Idol alum recalled. "I felt like just being able to sit there and watch and learn from her and Jamie [Foxx] and everyone else on the set, that was like advice enough." (Hudson went on to win the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Effie.)
Another fan asked Hudson when she last spoke to Beyonce. "Well, I just saw her not too long ago. The top of September," she replied.

Hudson also explained to Andy Cohen and Andre Leon Talley how she keeps up with all of Beyonce's latest performances, including her HBO concert film, On The Run. "I actually watched it," Hudson said. "Anytime Beyonce or Destiny's Child does something, I have parties. I always see it."
She reflected: "When I first met them — Destiny's Child, Kelly, Beyonce, Michelle, all of them — I was like, 'Y'all have no idea how big of a fan I am,' and they still don't get it. In my ship room, in my cabin, it was all Destiny's Child."
While Hudson praised Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams for their accomplishments, she gave the ultimate compliment to another singer. According to the Grammy winner, the single best female vocalist working right now is "Bang Bang" hitmaker Jessie J. "That's a tough one," Hudson said. "She's a great vocalist."
