YouTube Red Debuts Trailer for 'Karate Kid' Spinoff 'Cobra Kai'
From YouTube, Sony Pictures Television and Overbrook Entertainment, comes Cobra Kai, a reimagined take on the legendary Karate Kid saga.
Cobra Kai is set to launch exclusively on YouTube Red on May 2nd, with Ralph Macchio and William Zabka reprising their iconic roles from the original 1984 film, The Karate Kid.
In Cobra Kai, Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) has retired from his karate days and now owns a car dealership, appearing to be rich, secure, and happy. Meanwhile, Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) looks to have never gotten over his defeat against LaRusso at the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament. When he sees a commercial for LaRusso’s car dealership on television, Lawrence seeks him out, but instead of finding peace, his rivalry with LaRusso is reignited, as Lawrence reopens the infamous Cobra Kai karate dojo and begins training the next generation of karate kids.
LaRusso disapproves, knowing the dojo’s history of using extreme tactics on its students. He tells Lawrence, “Johnny, you and I, this…we aren’t done,” teasing a rematch between the two longtime rivals.

The series will debut at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 24 before premiering on YouTube Red on May 2.
